Our goal is to help you develop the treatment and tools needed to recognize and combat negative emotions, stress, and physiological responses in order to achieve an overall state of well-being.

What is Stress?

Stress is a term used to describe the wear and tear the body experiences in reaction to everyday tensions and pressures. Changes, illness, and injury or career and lifestyle changes are common causes of stress. It’s how we respond, however, to the emotional pressure and tension we may feel from the little everyday hassles- rush –hour traffic, waiting in line and too many e-mails – that do the most damage.

How does stress affect health?

Stress affects people physically, mentally, and emotionally. According to the American Institute of Stress, up to 90% of all health problems are related to stress. Too much stress can contribute to and agitate many healthy problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, depression, anxiety, weight issues, musculoskeletal pain and sleep disorders.

How stressed are you?

Everyone responds to stress differently. Take this quick test to see if you are experiencing stress. The items you check will reveal how much stress is affecting your life.

  • I feel overly tired or fatigued.
  • I often am nervous, anxious, or depressed.
  • I have sleep problems.
  • I have repeated headaches or minor aches and pains.
  • I worry about my job, finances, and relationships.

When you are stressed, your body is out of sync. Your system produces too much cortisol and inflammatory processes begin degrading the adrenals, brain and even the digestive tract.  Negative emotions we feel when stressed such as anger, frustration, anxiety, and worry lead to increased disorder in the heart rhythms and the nervous system. In contrast, positive emotions like joy, appreciation, care and kindness create harmony in the heart rhythms and the nervous system. Other bodily systems sync up to this rhythm, a process scientists call “coherence.” Because coherence leads to more mental clarity, creativity and better problem-solving abilities, it’s easier to find solutions and better ways of handling stressful situations.

Emotions or feelings have a powerful impact on the human body. Positive emotions like appreciation, care and love not only feel good, they are good for you. They help your body’s systems synchronize and work better, as a well-tuned car. Research has shown an immediate change in heart rhythms when shifted to a positive emotion, that creates a cascade of neural, hormonal and biochemical events that benefit the body.

What can our doctors do to create and practice physiological coherence for you?

Weddington Chiropractic Wellness Center offers several methods to manage stress in your life. Our focus is to offer a complete and natural approach with our branded “triangle” approach of Structural, Chemical and Emotional analyses. One impactful tool for the “emotional side” is our Heart Math Program.  We are a certified health practitioner for this trademarked system. It is a software device that simply connects to your ear and calculates your heartrate when playing particular games on the computer or phone. With this device, it introduces you to a method that helps you increase physiological coherence. You can use this technique in your daily life to reduce the effects of stress. Along with this biofeedback (Emotional side) approach, we review your other needs utilizing chiropractic care, acupuncture, exercise programs (Structural side), functional medicine testing , dietary/nutraceutical supplements (Chemical side ) to proactively manage your daily stress and overall well-being. Start being in control of your stress the natural way!

A Holistic Health Care Approach

When a total health approach is assessed by our functional medicine healthcare physicians, the patient’s care plan is customized and personalized. Each individual is closely monitored with periodic follow ups so that if any revisions are needed the latest and most current research is applied.

Weddington Wellness at Blakeney embraces early education and proactive care so many pre-diabetic insulin resistant patients would never advance to the detrimental stages of diabetes and not suffer from this DIS-EASED state.
